Choose and act.

Reading and researching are easy. Planning and talking are easy. Sooner or later you realize you are just spinning your wheels. Expending increasing amounts of energy without moving forward.

Enough.

Taking action is a deliberate choice. Choose and act.

Today I choose to change the direction of my life. I’m signing on for Leo Babauta’s 6 Changes Method. Cliche to do so at New Years along with x-million other individuals? Maybe, but I’m not willing to wait any longer. Think of me what you will. This will be an ongoing commitment over the course of the following year.

The first of my six habits for 2010 is devoting at least fifteen minutes every day to meditation. I am unsatisfied with my current level of introspection. So many of us have been in constant motion for as long as we can remember. Pouring our time and energy into everything around us all the while ignoring our inner voice.

I’ll be tracking my progress digitally here on the blog and also via Twitter updates. Physically I’ll be keeping track in my daily planner and checking off days on a dedicated calendar. I shared my commitment with my fiance and emailed friends and family.

The first week I will merely position myself in a specific location in my apartment for a few seconds. Subsequent weeks will add two minutes per week with the final (eighth) week adding three to bring the total meditation time up to 15 minutes.

My trigger will be drying off after getting out of the shower in the morning. The time between this trigger and eating breakfast should be ideal for this practice. I will be awake, relaxed, and hopefully have a relatively clear mind.

I’d love to hear about your goals, resolutions, or commitments and most importantly what you’re doing to ensure you follow through.

Here’s to a happy and successful 2010. Cheers!
